Dr. Wendi L. Johnson is the founder of Tree of Life Psychological Services, PLLC. She earned her Ph.D. in School Psychology, with a concentration in School Neuropsychology, from Texas Woman’s University in 2008. Dr. Johnson is a licensed psychologist and licensed specialist in school psychology with extensive experience working across clinical, educational, and university settings.

Throughout her career, Dr. Johnson has worked with school districts in North Carolina, Louisiana, and Texas as a school psychologist and has developed expertise in understanding complex learning, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental needs within the context of schools and families. She is the founder and current director of the Woodcock Autism Assessment Clinic (WAAC), a multidisciplinary clinic serving children and families through comprehensive autism assessment and consultation.

Dr. Johnson also served for 14 years as faculty in the graduate School Psychology program at Texas Woman’s University and continues her work with the university. During her time as faculty, she primarily taught doctoral level courses in school neuropsychological assessment, neuro and developmental disorders, direct behavioral interventions, and various applied practicum courses. She was also the practicum and internship coordinator for 14 years. One passion of Dr. Johnson’s is to mentor and support students. This was evidenced through the 48 dissertations committees she was on and chairing 18 of those in topics areas such as autism and school neuropsychology. She also developed a doctoral mentorship program and ran a large research team entitled the B.R.A.I.N. team (Behavior, Research, and Assessment In Neurodevelopment). Along with directing the WAAC, Dr. Johnson currently serves as Executive Director of the Woodcock Institute for the Advancement of Neurocognitive Research and Applied Practice, where she contributes to research through grant provision, professional education, and the advancement of evidence-informed psychological and neurocognitive practices. When she is not at work, Dr. Johnson enjoys spending time with her husband and their four children (two biological and two adopted). As a family, they love to travel, spend time outdoors, and enjoy playing games together. As adoptive parents, their family has also navigated the complexities of childhood trauma and special education services.

These experiences as an adoptive mom, psychologist, clinic director, school psychologist, and professor have given Dr. Johnson a unique perspective, allowing her to draw not only from her professional expertise but also from her personal experience as a mother. This combination of professional knowledge and lived experience enables her to walk alongside families and schools with empathy, understanding, and practical insight—bridging both perspectives to help children and families thrive.
